Phil Mickelson, with 41 professional tournament wins, including 4 majors (3 Masters and 1 PGA Championship) is one of the most popular fan favorites due to his bold play and humble charisma. This painting was created in 2009, after the initial period he and his family first dealt with his wife's breast cancer diagnosis. The artist wanted it to be a psychological portrait rather than a sports image displaying Phil's swing or personal flair on the golf course. Instead it's a frank, closely-cropped, profile view of the man. The art initially appeared in the Player Spotlight feature on the PGA Tour's official web site, and was created with brush, watercolors and gouache on paper.
