Byron Nelson (1912 - 2006) the gentlemanly champion from Texas nicknamed “Lord Byron,” had 52 career PGA Tour tournament wins/ 5 major championship victories. In 1945 alone he won an amazing 18 total tournaments, with an astounding 11 wins in a row... a record that will never be broken. That year his scoring average was 68.33, a record which held until 2000 when it was broken by Tiger Woods. Byron Nelson retired in 1946 at age 34.
